SAMPLE REPORTS

What is in a yacht survey report?

See what you will receive before you commission a survey. The three reports below were produced from real surveys: 2018 Jeanneau Prestige 500, 14.92 m, 2 × Volvo Penta IPS 600. The vessel name, identification numbers and personal details were changed; findings, measurements and photographs are as recorded. Seven findings from other surveys were added to the pre-purchase report to show the range of defects; each is marked in the report as not relating to this vessel.

  • A photograph, a basis (regulation or ABYC) and a recommendation for every finding
  • A / B / C priority system and a numbered list of findings
  • Measured tables: battery health, anodes, water analysis, engine ECU data
  • Stated limits in every report: what was not measured is recorded too
  • Downloadable as a watermarked PDF, no registration

THREE REPORT TYPES

Three report types, three questions

A pre-purchase survey answers "what is wrong with it", a valuation answers "what is it worth", and an out-of-water hull survey answers "what is the condition below the waterline". The three are separate samples for the same model; read each within its own scope.

Finding cards from the report

This is how a finding appears in a report

Every finding is written with a priority badge (A / B / C), the observation, a recommendation and photographic evidence. The 9 cards below are taken from the English pre-purchase report with their numbers and pages; those marked "from another survey" are the added findings described above. The full list is in the PDF.

Area of delamination on the hull; signs of separation in the laminate
Finding A-10First priority — safety

Hull Surface Comments

15.1 Underwater Equipment and Hull Inspection · from another survey

Delamination was found at the locations shown in the photographs. The identified locations were examined internally with an endoscope, and deformation was observed in the fibre.

Recommendation: It is recommended that further investigation be carried out and, if necessary, that it be repaired in accordance with good marine practice.

Crack in the underwater hull beneath the bow thruster, scraped open around it
Finding A-9First priority — safety

Hull Surface Comments

15.1 Underwater Equipment and Hull Inspection · from another survey

Two cracks each were found on the port and starboard sides of the forward underwater hull, running downward from beneath the bow thruster; when the areas around and over the cracks were scraped, they were found to extend deeper. Percussion sounding (phenolic hammer) testing showed that the section beneath the bow thruster differed from the rest of the hull, and moisture meter readings showed elevated moisture levels at the cracks.

Recommendation: It is recommended that it be repaired in accordance with good marine practice.

Layer of soot built up in the engine room from an exhaust leak
Finding A-6First priority — safety

Engine Exhaust System

7.1 Propulsion Engines · from another survey

It was evident from the soot deposits on the engine and in the engine room that the starboard engine exhaust was emitting an excessive amount of exhaust gas.

Recommendation: It is recommended that it be repaired and its performance tested on a sea trial.

Oily water in the engine room bilge and a water-level mark on the side
Finding B-10Second priority — to be rectified in good time

Bilge

4.1 Hull Structure · from another survey

Oily water and water were observed in the engine bilges. Water was found in the accommodation bilges; the marks in the bilge indicate that the water remained at approximately 15 cm for an extended period.

Recommendation: It is recommended that the water be fully dried out and that the sources of the water and oil be traced and eliminated.

The findings were selected from real survey reports; vessel names, identification numbers and locations were removed. Which vessel a finding belongs to is never disclosed. Observations, measured values and photographs are as they appear in the report.

PRIVACY

What we withheld and what we kept

A survey report belongs to the client; these samples were published with the owner's written consent. So that the vessel cannot be identified on its own, the report program's sample report mode changed the following:

  • Vessel name → "SAMPLE MOTOR YACHT"; HIN, official number, engine and generator serial numbers → withheld
  • Client, owner and captain names, telephone numbers, berth and marina → withheld
  • The survey date on the particulars page was reduced to the month; file numbers became placeholders: ORNEK-01-EN, ORNEK-02-EN, ORNEK-03-EN
  • Photographs of the registry certificate, HIN plate, serial labels, people and locations were removed
  • A "SAMPLE REPORT" watermark was added to every page and a "compiled from real surveys" note to the cover

Make, model, year, length, engine type, findings, measured values and photographs were not changed — these are what matter to the reader, and they do not identify the vessel on their own.

Frequently asked questions

About the sample reports

Are the sample reports real?

Yes. All three were produced from real surveys carried out in September 2026 on a 2018 Jeanneau Prestige 500; they are separate samples for the same model. The vessel name, HIN, official number, personal names, berth and file number were replaced by the report program's sample mode, and photographs that would identify the vessel were removed. Make, model, year, findings and measurements are unchanged. The pre-purchase report also contains seven findings taken from other surveys (delamination and cracks beneath a bow thruster, for example); each is marked in the report with a note saying it does not relate to this vessel.

Is the English report a translation?

Every survey is written in Turkish on site. An English edition is produced on request as a separate copy of the same report: each passage is translated, translated back into Turkish as a check, and approved on the program's translation desk before the PDF can be printed. Turkish legislation is cited under its English name and marked "unofficial translation". The English edition carries its own file number (for example ORNEK-01-EN) and can be checked at yachtsurvey.com.tr/en/verify.

Why are there three separate samples?

Because each report type answers a different question. A pre-purchase survey ranks defects; a condition and valuation survey combines the same technical picture with market data to reach a reasoned value range; an out-of-water hull survey concentrates on the underwater hull and its fittings. Their findings, measurements and condition ratings are independent of one another.

Will my report be this long?

Length depends on the size, age and number of systems of the vessel. A 15 m, 2018 motor yacht produced a 149-page report; a 40 ft sailing yacht may run to 40-50 pages. The chapter structure and the finding system are the same in every report.

Do I need to register to download?

No. The PDFs open from a direct link and no email address is asked for. Every page carries a "SAMPLE REPORT" watermark; the documents are for information only and cannot be relied upon as a survey opinion.
