What is checked in an engine survey — is a separate specialist needed?
No separate specialist is needed: the person carrying out this inspection is also a qualified marine mechanic and master instructor. A diagnostic tool is connected to the engine control unit and the compression (cylinder balance) test, injector test, true running hours and fault history are read.
Why it works this way
Reading the number a tool gives you and knowing what that number means are two different things. This measurement is uncommon in yacht survey reports in Turkey precisely because the surveyor usually has neither the tool nor the engine-side background to interpret it.
