How long does a survey take and what does the report contain?
On a boat of around 40 ft, field work including the yard inspection and sea trial takes about 1.5 working days, extending to 2-3 days on larger boats; the written report is delivered the day the field work ends. The report covers hull, machinery, electrical and electronic systems, deck gear, safety equipment and documents; findings are graded by priority and supported with photographs.
Why it works this way
Length sets the baseline, but access matters as much: a cramped engine room or a sole that has to come up adds hours another boat of the same length would not. Report delivery, however, does not wait — a verbal first assessment is given as soon as the field work ends and the written report reaches you the same day.
