Why do Westerlys have a reputation for being built like tanks?
The reputation is earned in the laminate thickness: British yards of the period worked generously, which means a heavy hull but high impact and grounding tolerance.
Why it works this way
A strong hull is not the same as a hull that needs no maintenance. The old sealant in the hull-to-deck joint hardens with time and becomes a water entry point — an area scanned specifically in a survey.
