Choosing a Boat
Is a survey compulsory when buying second-hand?
Not legally, but in practice it becomes so in two places: insurers ask for a current report when writing a policy, and banks ask for one when lending.
Why it works this way
Even without those, the arithmetic settles it — a survey costs in the order of one per cent of the boat’s price, while a single missed item can reach a significant share of it.
