How do you compare the costs of a motor yacht and a sailing yacht?
The comparison should be made on annual usage rather than purchase price: fuel and engine maintenance dominate on a motor yacht, rig and sail replacement on a sailing yacht.
Why it works this way
A motor yacht used a few weeks a year can cost more than a heavily used sailing yacht. In a survey the weight shifts too — the engine room on one, the rig on the other.
