From which year are older boats considered risky?
There is no firm cut-off, but two periods get flagged: pre-1980 resins are less water-resistant, and pre-1990 wiring and rigging are approaching their age limits.
Why it works this way
Even so, a well-maintained 1985 boat can be in better condition than a neglected 2005 one. Age is an indicator; measurement is the evidence.
