Do you have to use a broker when buying a boat?
No. A broker speeds the process but usually takes commission from the seller and therefore stands on the seller’s side. That is not bad faith; it simply shows where the interest lies.
Why it works this way
The buyer’s counterweight is an independent surveyor — one they choose themselves rather than one the broker suggests.
